We offer 24-hour, 48-hour and 72-hour (and longer if required) ECG monitoring of the heart rhythm. Also known as Holter monitoring, this test is a continuous recording of your heart’s electrical activity over a full day or multiple days and is used to detect abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

A nurse or cardiac technician will place several stickers on the chest and will be connected via small wires to a small portable device to be carried around in a pouch.  The monitor is small and discreet, allowing you to go about your normal daily activities.  You are free to carry on with most of your regular activities, including walking, working, or light exercise, as the goal is to capture how your heart functions during your typical routine.

You’ll be asked to keep a diary of your activities and note any symptoms you experience, such as palpitations, chest pain, or dizziness. This helps the doctor correlate your symptoms with the heart activity recorded by the monitor.

After this period of monitoring, you’ll return to South Yorkshire Heart Centre to have the monitor and electrodes removed.

The information recorded will be downloaded and analysed by a cardiac technician (Physiologist) and the report sent to your Cardiologist.

Why see a Cardiologist
I have private medical cover - can I be seen at South Yorkshire Heart Centre?
I don’t have private medical cover - can I still arrange an appointment?
How much does a new patient appointment cost if I am a self-paying patient?
