An ECG (electrocardiogram) is a simple, non-invasive and painless test used to assess the electrical activity of the heart. It takes just a few minutes to perform. Some stickers are placed on your skin and connected to a machine to generate the ECG.

It is performed to check for various heart conditions, like heart rhythm disturbances, heart attacks, or other abnormalities in heart function.

Why see a Cardiologist



Patients may see a Cardiologist for a variety of reasons, including symptoms such as shortness of breath, palpitations (awareness of the heart rhythm), chest pain or chest discomfort and loss or near loss of consciousness.

A Cardiologist looks after conditions including heart rhythm disturbances, heart artery disease (including angina), hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, heart valve disease and heart failure.

At South Yorkshire Heart Centre, we take the time to listen to your symptoms and concerns and work with you to develop a safe and timely plan for investigation and treatment.

We accept referrals directly from patients with the symptoms listed above, or from your GP where your GP feels a Cardiology appointment is required.

I have private medical cover - can I be seen at South Yorkshire Heart Centre?



We see patients covered by the major private healthcare providers including Bupa, Axa, Aviva, Vital, WPA, Cigna, G&M, Allianz, HP and Curian. We would advise contacting your insurance company to check your condition is covered in advance of your appointment.

I don’t have private medical cover - can I still arrange an appointment?



Yes, we are happy to see self-paying patients at South Yorkshire Heart Centre. You can call our technical team to self-refer and arrange an appointment today. Alternatively, your GP can refer you by email or letter.

How much does a new patient appointment cost if I am a self-paying patient?


